We believe patients and health systems deserve better than the status quo.

At Patientco, we build easy-to-use payment technology that treats patients like consumers and empowers healthcare providers to dramatically improve the way they communicate. Together, patients are happier, health systems are more efficient and doctors can focus on what they’re supposed to do -  take care of their patients!

As the Director of Engineering, you will lead our user-facing Engineering teams working directly with customers, product, client success, and our professional services team.  You should have a love for healthcare technology (and care a lot about payments).  You will be responsible for building the platform that ensures patients have the tools and understanding to make important healthcare and financial decisions.  Does that sound like you? Read on!

Day-to-day you will:

  • Provide effective team management, leadership and mentoring
  • Uphold high standards for engineering throughout both the development and test phases
  • Provide a clear and objective vision for the teams to act on and ensures team members are performing at the needed level to successfully execute the goals
  • Hire, develop, mentor, and lead amazing teams
  • Lead by example to facilitate a culture of teamwork, success, and customer-centric focus
  • Develop and hone an agile development process that emphasizes test automation, code reviews, and hyper-fast release cycles
  • Create effective client implementation and support plans for the engineering teams
  • Leverage data and analytical models to build unique consumer experiences based on millions of patient interactions

You will be accountable for:

  • Leading decision-making, cultivate collaboration and resolve blocking issues between engineers and cross-company teams.
  • Driving timely execution of projects, tracking progress of teams, and providing status updates across multiple projects.
  • Participating in cross-functional planning and reviews with key stakeholders.
  • Leading code reviews and technical meetings
  • Prioritizing work within and across projects, consistent with deadlines and business value
  • Scaling the platform by identifying and prioritizing support work to be automated
  • Providing scoping, staffing and timeline estimates to meet business goals and objectives
  • Developing and maintaining a deep technical understanding of our platform
  • Contribute to the architectural vision and roadmap for Patientco systems, and oversee the technical delivery of that roadmap.
  • Being an active participant in a fun, ambitious, and team-oriented culture

You may be a good fit if:

  • You have a strong engineering background with a minimum of 10+ years of software development experience in high-volume web environments
  • You have at least a 5 years of engineering management experience including managing multiple development teams
  • You have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (though masters is preferred)
  • You’ve managed teams that shipped and operated critical software in high-availability web-based systems or large-volume transaction processing environments
  • You work in a web development environment that uses some of these technologies:
    • Modern Javascript frameworks (we use AngularJS)
    • PHP and Go
    • Relational databases (we use AWS Aurora)
    • Cloud hosting (we use AWS and Google Cloud Platform)
    • Container-based applications (we use Docker and Kubernetes)
  • You’ve successfully recruited great teammates and developed managers
  • You thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility

We are a team at Patientco and that’s not just some corporate mumbo jumbo. We expect a ton out of everyone here but that’s what makes it great. The whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. We value excellent communication and collaboration skills, creative problem solving, empathy, open mindedness, extreme attention to detail, a healthy dose of grit and a good sense of humor.

We take care of our own at Patientco. Some of the highlights include our infamous “Free Food Fridays”, casual dress code, no vacation tracking, monthly social events, and of course a full benefits package including health/dental/vision/401k. Bottom line: it’s a great place to work!
